The Académie Internationale Édith Serei has the distinction of being the first ever esthetics school to be established in North America. Started in 1958 by Edith Serei in the province of Quebec, the academy would soon open in more venues across the country and around the world. Edith Serei's influence on the field of beauty can be seen through her books and her television show. Her services extended to helping the physically and mentally disabled. In 1974 she was awarded the Knighthood of the Order of Merit.
Today, the academy offers a number of diploma and certificate courses for various aspects of esthetics, electrolysis and massage therapy. The massage therapy program covers all aspects of massage therapy with special focus on Swedish massage. Communication techniques are taught in addition to important instructions regarding sexual ethics and sexuality. The academy also offers a number of diploma and certificate courses in esthetics and electrolysis as well as attestation courses in cosmetology, waxing, electronic lifting and laser hair removal. The academy welcomes international students and offers a number of esthetic treatments to the public that are performed by trainees under professional supervision.
