The Academy of Classical Oriental Sciences, British Columbia is accredited by the Private Career Training Institutions Agency of BC and has various programs that teach Chinese medicine, including acupuncture, Chinese herbs, Chinese dietary therapy, Chinese theory of emotion, Qi Gong, Tai Chi, Tuina or Chinese massage and counseling skills. The Academy is also registered with the Saskatchewan CASS Program as a Learning Activity Provider. Four Diploma programs in Traditional Chinese Medicine are offered: a 3-year TCM Herbalist Program, 3-year Acupuncturist Program and a 4 and 5 year Traditional Chinese Medicine Program (Practitioner & Doctor). The teaching of Chinese language is also included in the curriculum. Students are trained in such a way that they become competent in setting up a successful practice in Chinese medicine when they graduate. Students observe TCM doctors treat patients at the Academy Outpatient Clinic on the campus. They get to practice what they are taught at the Student Clinic during their final year of study. Students also have the chance to study in China. The integration of a Western medicine component helps the students communicate with other health care professionals and they also become equipped to apply for licensing.
