The Academy of Professional Hair Design is a twenty-year-old school focusing on hair design as well as health within the industry, in addition to practical business applications.
The Academy is registered and governed by the Alberta Vocational Schools Act.
They have a 1400 hour Beauty Culture Certification Program. In their focus on health issues related to the beauty industry, topics included are benefits of essential oils, wheat grass and detoxification. The Hair Program is both theory as well as practical oriented. Two months are spent in instruction and demonstration of course content which includes Professional Development, Salon Ecology, Anatomy and Physiology, Electricity, Chemistry, Salon Business, Trichology, Design Decisions, Hair cutting and styling, wigs, perms, hair coloring and the study of skin and nails. To give students training in a real life situation, they work with clients in a salon so that they can build confidence for the workplace. Instructors supervise them and keep them up to date with the latest happenings in cutting techniques, color, perming, etc. The next eight months are spent polishing the skills acquired.
A new 900-hour aesthetics program was recently added where students are trained to develop the knowledge, skill and confidence to succeed in the Esthetics and Spa Industry. This program covers Pedicures and Manicures, Demonstration of the Massage technique, Waxing, Nail Technology, Facial treatments, Spa Body treatments and make up artistry.
