Profile of Career College/Trade School
The Canadian College of Shiatsu Therapy was founded by Kiyoshi Ikenaga, SPR. Shiatsumaster. The college specializes in teaching Japanese traditional Shiatsu, which was established by Tokujiro Namikoshi Sensei. The main campus is located at North Vancouver, BC, Canada. The Canadian College of Shiatsu Therapy is a member of the BC Career Colleges Associations and the National Association of Career Colleges. The 2200-hour Shiatsupractor Diploma Program is approved by the Washington State Department of Health.
The demand for Shiatsupractors is growing because of the stressful lifestyles that most of us lead. Graduates can look forward to starting their own clinics. They can also find employment in hospitals, spas, health care facilities, and corporate settings. Those who want to teach Shiatsu Therapy can do so. Graduates can work anywhere in the world except Japan.
The aim of the 2200-hour Shiatsupractor Diploma Program is to put its graduates on the same level as the practitioners of other healing therapies like Acupuncture. The full-time diploma program takes 21 months to complete. However, health professionals like Registered Massage Therapists of BC can achieve the Shiatsupractor status by completing a 153-hour Shiatsu Foundation Course. Part-time students can take up to 4 years to complete the program. The curriculum also focuses on teaching Japanese culture and tradition to provide a complete understanding of the Shiatsu Therapy. Several instructors are Japanese and follow Japanese traditions in their day-to-day lives.
