Profile of Career College/Trade School

The Fraser Valley Trades Center has been providing residential construction training and Level C training since February 2005 and January 2006 respectively. The Center is accredited by the Private Career Training Institutions Agency of BC and the Industry Training Authority designates its programs.

The programs offered by the Fraser Valley Trades Center are Electrical Level 1 & 2 Apprenticeship Programs, Residential Framing Technician and Welding Level C programs. The Electrical Level 1 & 2 Apprenticeship Programs aims at enabling apprentices to obtain technical training in a unique format. At the end of the program, apprentices appear for the Industry Training Authority Level 1 or Level 2 examination. When they complete the program, the apprentices would have finished their technical requirement for Level 1 or Level 2 certification. The Residential Framing Technician program content was developed by the Canadian Home Builders' Association of BC. The CHBA approved the Fraser Valley Trades Center to deliver this program. The program has the approval of the Industry Training Authority of BC and is recognized as a trade.

Students that complete the program are awarded with a certificate of achievement from the CHBA. When the hands on job training and certification exams are completed, the ITA awards the Residential Framing Certification. This Residential Framing Certificate is equal to the first year carpentry certificate. The course includes practical skills training as well as employability skills training.

Building Envelope Technician is a 24-week program that prepares its students for employment in the residential construction industry with specialty in building envelope technology.
