Massage therapy has increasingly become recognized as an important therapeutic tool as well as a great way to relax. Massage therapy is used to help relax and revitalize the body, as well as to help it heal and restore its health. Massage therapy is used in horses for the same reasons - to detoxify the animal and improve its circulation and mobility.
The D'Arcy Lane Institute offers a comprehensive massage therapy program which includes practical work experience in outreach clinics. The course offers instruction in a wide range of aspects including human anatomy, human relations, hydrotherapy, business, pathology and physiology. The institute's equine massage therapy program is the only registered program of its kind in North America. It teaches students to work with veterinarians in the rehabilitation of horses. The course also requires that the student complete a research project as part of the course requirements. The D'Arcy Lane Institute's equine massage therapy program covers aspects such as conformation and kinesiology, equine anatomy and equine behavior. The institute also holds information sessions for people who are interested in learning more about massage therapy.
