Profile of Career College/Trade School

The Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy (OVCMT) is located in Vernon, British Columbia, Canada, and was founded in 1994. It is accredited by the Private Career Training Institution Agency, and its three-year diploma program is accredited by the College of Massage Therapists of BC. OVCMT focuses on training students to become professional massage therapists. The curriculum is geared towards providing the latest knowledge and skills necessary to become a successful Registered Massage Therapist.

The Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy offers a three-year Massage Therapy Program, which also focuses on spa applications. The curriculum is designed to provide students a foundation in Anatomy, Physiology, Kinesiology, and Pathology. Besides the massage skills, students are also taught mobilization therapy, hydrotherapy, trigger point therapy, and remedial exercise. Students are taught to diagnose musculoskeletal pathologies and to treat conditions that respond to massage therapies. The program also trains students in prevention of injuries and diseases so that they can give proper advice to their clients regarding the same.

Teaching of business skills is essential to both the programs. Upon successful completion of the three year Massage Therapy program, students qualify to become Registered Massage Therapists. The unique thing about the Massage Therapy program is that students get to choose their exit points. If you exit after the second year, you will get a 2000-hour diploma. Students who complete their first year qualify to become a certified Spa Practitioner.

Now a graduate of OVCMT’s three year diploma program is eligible to receive upto 90 credits towards the 120 credits required to earn a Bachelor of Health Science degree from Thompson Rivers University- Open Learning. Students who are interested in pursuing BHSc from Thompson Rivers University-Open Learning should consult the program advisor regarding the courses for the remainder 30 credits.
