Syms Travel School was founded in 1983 in the town of Burlington in Ontario, Canada. It is an accredited private career college that provides comprehensive training in travel and tourism. The curriculum of Syms is based on the guidelines given by the Canadian Institute of Travel Counselors and the Canadian Educational Standards System.
The travel and tourism diploma consists of modules on the travel industry, types of tourists, tourism law, customer service, computer reservation, ticketing, fares, tourism destinations, and operating a travel agency. This course is held five days a week for 21 weeks. The modules can even be completed individually for separate certificates. The college also conducts evening classes for working professionals who want to better their qualifications.
Every classroom has a live on-line APOLLO computer reservation system, which allows students access to travel resources around the world. The college also trains students to use the SABRE computer reservation system. Syms Travel School has a full-time travel agency on its campus called ‘TRAVEL IMAGE’, which imparts skills needed by the tourism industry.
Graduates of a course from Syms Travel School have a variety of career options open to them. Some work in travel agencies as travel counselors or booking agents. Others get jobs in airline reservation, package tour companies and hotels.
