Among the major topics to be covered are addictions, behaviour management, 'female and native offenders,' group dynamics, 'interviewing and intervention skills,' 'security measures and techniques,' 'the legal and theoretical aspects of crime and behaviour,' and 'the role of victims in the Canadian Justice System.' During the second year students will have the opportunity to apply what they have learned in the classroom to real-world situations via 'two seven-week blocks of field placement in a correctional setting.' The latter will enable 'students to make immediate and significant contributions to the field' and to 'develop good communication and writing skills.' Moreover, the Placements will place emphasis 'on writing reports, assessments and case management, as well as client/worker interactions.' Usually, to be permitted to register for Field Placement I' during level three, students must 'complete the first year of the program with a grade point average of 2.0 before.

Graduates of the Program can pursue employment, career advancement, and/or educational opportunities in various areas of criminal justice or related fields. Career-wise, graduates may be employed in such places as 'federal and provincial correctional institutions, in residences for adult and young offenders, and in community-based correctional and/or victim-oriented programs.' For example, graduates can be employed as Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers, Customs, Parole, or Probation Managers or Officers, Provincial and Federal Corrections Case Workers, Managers, Officers, or Supervisors, or Youth Work Managers or Supervisors, among any other positions. However, some positions will require students to undertake further training in addition to the Diploma. Graduates may also further their respective training and education at various colleges, universities, and institutions often with advanced credit.

To be eligible for admission, applicants must meet both the College's and the Program's admission requirements. To be considered for entrance to the College, applicants must either have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent. Prospective students having earned an OSSD with 'senior English and/or mathematics courses at the Basic Level, or with Workplace or Open courses, will be tested to determine their eligibility for admission.' Individuals who do not have a high school diploma and are 19 years of age or older may apply via "mature student status;" however, the latter may be required to write an academic achievement test before a decision regarding their respective applications is made.

To be eligible for the Program, applicants must have successfully completed Grade 12 English (ENG4C), or equivalent, and submit 'proof of level "C" First Aid certification. The latter must also 'be valid upon graduation.' Applicants must also 'submit proof of a clear Police Record Check to the Program Department prior to the beginning of classes.'
