Centennial College of Applied Arts and Technology's 2-year Community and Justice Services diploma combines theoretical and practical education to provide students the knowledge and skills that will allow them to pursue employment, career advancement, or further education in community and justice services or related fields. Emphasizing 'prevention, intervention and rehabilitative strategies,' the Program will expose students to 'expert knowledge, skills and training to work in diverse settings that address those people who are at risk, currently incarcerated or involved with the criminal justice system and/or involved in rehabilitation programs.' On a theoretical level, students will learn about such things as 'the latest concepts and theories of criminology, offender profiles, gangs, youth culture and the law and clients with mental health disorders.' Through active participation, students will gain competency is such areas as care and control, case management, communication, counseling, crisis and suicide intervention, First Aid and CPR, group dynamics, program development and facilitation, risk assessment, security, treatment approaches, and understanding and managing aggressive behaviour (UMAB). The Program includes 2 field placements that will allow students to apply what they have learned in class to real-world situations at an agency or institution. Students will not be 'paid for placement' but 'many of the placements offer..students part/full-time employment after graduation.' Before partaking in a placement, students must 'obtain a Criminal Records Check from the police;' those with 'a criminal record may have difficulty obtaining a placement, employment and tour participation.'

Possessing 'a diverse range of skill sets,' graduates of the Program will be prepared to pursue a broad array of employment, career advancements, and/or further studies in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or related areas. Graduates have attained such positions as Agency and Institution Supervisors, Bail, Child and Adult Advocates, Court, Correctional, Immigration, Licensing, Police, RCMP, and Training Officers, Community Service Order Co-ordinators, Intervention Workers, Outreach Workers, Program Facilitators, including addictions, anger management, and suicide intervention, Superintendents and Program Directors of Institutions, Victim Services, and Youth Workers.

Furthermore, graduates will be ready to pursue further education in various colleges and universities across Canada. Graduates who go pursue further education, especially at the graduate level, training, and experience can attain higher level positions such as Judges and Justices, Lawyers, and Probation and Parole Officers.

To be eligible for admission to the Program applicants must possess an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent. Applicants who are 19 years of age or older may apply via "mature student status;" those applying under the latter may need to complete skills assessment(s) testing. Mature applicants are advised to contact the College to determine if such testing is required. Furthermore, all prospective students must complete a questionnaire, submit letters of reference, and attend an information system.

Applicants will be required to demonstrate that they possess English language skills sufficient to study at the College. This can be done either by having completed a minimum of 4 years of English at a secondary school in Canada or by take an English Language proficiency test, like the TOEFL. Those who take an English Language proficiency test and do not meet the minimum scores as established by the College may take the Centennial College English Assessment.
