Combining theoretical and practical education, New Brunswick Community College's 2-year Diploma in Correctional Techniques, offered at the Miramichi Campus, is exposes students to the knowledge and skills required to work in correctional institutions and related agencies. Among the major topics to be covered are Case Management, Communications, Community Justice Interventions, Computer Applications, Correctional Institutions and Operations, Criminal Justice System, Criminology, Crisis and Suicide Intervention, Employment Strategies, Fire Training, First Aid and CPR, Group Dynamics, Interpersonal Behavior, Interviewing and Helping, Occupational Health and Safety, Physical Fitness, Psychology, Sociology, Understanding Grief, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), and Youth Corrections. Some courses, such as Crisis and Suicide Intervention and Fire Training, will be taught using 'a workshop format,' and students will be required to partake in physical fitness classes. Students will also be able to apply what they have learned in the classroom to real-world situations via 'two field placements (twelve weeks)' that offer students 'exposure to a correctional environment.'

Graduates of the Program can pursue employment, career advancement, and/or educational opportunities in various areas of criminal justice or related fields. Career-wise, graduates may be employed in such places as 'federal, provincial, municipal, and private correctional institutions and with sheriff's departments.' For example, graduates can be employed as Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers, Customs, Parole, or Probation Managers or Officers, Provincial and Federal Corrections Case Workers, Managers, Officers, or Supervisors, or Youth Work Managers or Supervisors, among any other positions. Graduates may also further their respective training and education at various colleges, universities, and institutions often with advanced credit.

To be eligible for admission to the Program, applicants will usually be required to possess a high school diploma, or equivalent, such as an Adult High School or GED Diploma. Mature applicants that do not possess the aforementioned requirements may be still be considered for admission provided they have 'related experience or training' and 'following additional assessment done at the Campus.' Mature applicants who do not have the academic requirements to apply via regular admission should contact the Miramichi 'Campus for further direction.'

Furthermore, 'candidates who have been accepted to the program will be required to submit, at their own expense, the results of a Criminal/Police Records Check. This includes checks obtained through the CPIC (Canadian Police Information Center), the PIRS (Police Information Retrieval System), and local police indices.' Applicants who have a criminal record can be refused admission; on the other hand, 'individuals who are convicted of a criminal code offence while enrolled as a student may be asked to leave the program.'
