Diploma in University Studies in Criminology - Maskwachees Cultural College

Maskwachees Cultural College's Diploma in University Studies in Criminology is designed for students aspiring to attain employment, career advancement, skill upgrading, or further education and/or training in Criminology, Criminal Justice or related fields. The Program is unique in that it approaches the study of Criminology from primarily a First Nations perspective, and includes courses in Cree, Cree Studies, and Indigenous Studies. Individuals interested in the Program should contact the Maskwachees Cultural College by mail at Box 360, Hobbema, Alberta, T0C 1N0, by phone at (780) 585-3925 or toll-free at 1-866-585-3925, by fax at (780) 585-2080, or by email at registrar@maskwachees.ca to obtain information regarding admission requirements and application procedures.

Graduates may pursue careers, career advancement, and/or educational opportunities in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or related fields. Career-wise, graduates may be employed in various positions across Canada, including working for educational or governmental institutions or for employers in the non-profit or private sector. For example, graduates may work in the areas of crime prevention, criminal investigation, criminal law, insurance, law and law enforcement, national security, offender case management, policing, Revenue Canada, the courts, victim services, and young offenders, to name but a few. Some careers, however, may require further training, and students should also be aware that having a criminal record could be an obstacle to finding employment in criminology, criminal justice, and related fields.

Graduates can also take on further studies in the field at various colleges, universities, and institutes across Canada, including up to 2 years of advanced standing into various Bachelor degree programs.. The Program is, in fact, 'modeled to fit the University of Alberta B.A. degree requirements.' However, 'many courses will transfer to other B.A. degree programs, including those at the University of Calgary, the University of Lethbridge and Augustana University College.'
