Gaming Security Officer Training - Justice Institute of British Columbia

The Justice Institute of British Columbia, in partnership with the British Columbia Lottery Corporation, offers a 2-week Gaming Security Officer Certification Program, which is primarily designed for individuals interested in acquiring the knowledge and skills 'to qualify for employment in casinos and other gaming facilities,' as security personnel, in BC. Gaming Security Officers 'play a key role in maintaining gaming integrity, ensuring the comfort and safety of customers and co-workers, protecting the assets of the facility, managing access and investigating unusual activities and incidents.' The Program will enable candidates to perform the aforementioned duties by focussing training on basic investigative skills, customer and staff protection, customer service, gaming and security officer duties, gaming facility protection, laws and regulations, and professionalism and ethics. Upon successful completion of the Program, including the final examinations, graduates 'will receive a Certificate of Completion for the Gaming Security Officers Program' and 'Certificates of Completion for the Basic Standards Training 1 and 2 (BST1 and BST2).' The latter are 'required to work as a security guard by the BC Registrar of Security programs.'

Graduates of the Program will have the specialized qualifications to seek employment in various aspects of security in any of the over '19 Casinos and 4 Community Gaming Centres across the province' on a full-time or part-time basis. Having acquired the BST1 and BST2, however, graduates will also possess the qualification to pursue security positions in a variety of other settings, such as transit systems, private business, and public events.
