Capilano University was founded as a college in 1968, and opened its permanent campus in 1973. In 2008, the provincial government changed Capilano College's designation to Capilano University. The institution has earned an international reputation for quality teaching, programs and services. Capilano University is well known for providing a solid academic foundation and is committed to developing new and innovative programs in response to student and provincial demand. We offer a complete range of preparatory courses, arts and sciences courses, business and management studies, creative and applied arts programs, health and human services programs, plus a range of services in support of student learning and success. Credentials awarded include bachelor degrees, associate degrees, post-baccalaureate diplomas, diplomas, certificates and statements of completion. The Faculty of Arts and Sciences offers more than 750 university courses in the areas of Humanities, Pure and Applied Sciences, and Social Sciences. Degrees include Associate of Arts and Associate of Science, Bachelor of Arts in Applied Behaviour Analysis (Autism), and a new Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies. Our main campus is in North Vancouver, located in a natural environment on the slopes of the North Shore and only a 20-minute drive from downtown Vancouver. The beauty of the campus and the quality of education attract students from around the world. Capilano University also has regional campuses in Squamish and Sechelt that serve the communities of Howe Sound and the Sunshine Coast. The total number of students enrolled in credit programs totals approximately 7,500. An additional 7,000 students register in non-credit courses each year. Responsibilities

The Faculty of Arts and Sciences Dean is the chief academic and administrative officer of this Faculty, and is responsible for all operational decisions/communications concerning this Faculty including budget, planning and maintenance, planning and curriculum design, general operations, personnel management, strategic planning, mission fulfillment, and future development. The Dean oversees the performance of chairs, coordinators, conveners, and other direct reports, and oversees the learning outcomes and teaching accomplishments of this Faculty. As an integral member of the executive leadership group, the Dean serves in the Senate and on a wide variety of management and governance committees. The Dean reports to the Vice President, Academic and Provost.


Experience and Qualifications

The successful candidate will come to Capilano University with a doctorate or terminal degree in their field of expertise, extensive teaching experience in the arts and sciences or other related fields, significant post-secondary administrative experience, outstanding leadership skills, and a lived commitment to the values, goals, and mandates of a teaching and learning focused institution. Our next Dean will continue to be dedicated to collaboration, communication, and consultation, as well as outcomes-driven teaching and evidence-based learning. Essential to this position will be the ability to envision a twenty-first century future for arts and science education within an increasingly integrative, interdisciplinary, and interdependent academic environment.
