Overview

KFL&A Public Health, an accredited local public health agency affiliated with Queen's University, serves to promote and protect the health of the more than 180,000 residents of Kingston, Frontenac, and Lennox & Addington area. The Continuous Quality Improvement and Central Resources Team has an immediate opening for a Communications and Public Relations Specialist. The Communications and Public Relations Specialist is responsible for providing strategic communications direction in support of the agency mission and health promotion and health protection program and service objectives and for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating communications plans and strategies for both external and internal audiences. The successful candidate will also provide leadership in public relations, community relations, media relations, and risk and emergency communications and work collaboratively with others to achieve organizational objectives while ensuring agency communications are efficient and effective, and meet corporate identity standards.


Experience and Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a University degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications or equivalent and three (3) years progressive experience in communications, public relations or marketing. Demonstrated knowledge and skills in social marketing, research methods, and development and evaluation of communication strategies are critical to success in the role. Public health, health promotion and local media knowledge are definite assets.
