Overview

The 2012 MS Walk is quickly approaching and is scheduled for the weekend of April 21st and 22nd at Sunnybrook Park. Volunteers make a big impact and are essential for a successful event. There are many volunteer positions available at the MS Walk and your involvement helps bring us that much closer to ending MS. Aside from assisting at the MS Walk, there are other ways to get involved as well. Help spread the word to all of your friends and family and invite them to come out and participate! You can also register or pledge a participant. Find out more about the MS Walk at mswalks.ca. Although the MS Walk is in April, it is best to sign up early and reserve your spot!

Responsibilities

Here are a few examples of the different ways you can get involved in volunteering with the MS Walk: Check-in Volunteers- Be the first faces the walkers see when they arrive! Greet them enthusiastically, ensure their paperwork is complete, process their pledges, and assist in distributing their t-shirts to get them ready for the day. Food Preparation Volunteers- Help feed our hungry participants and celebrate their success of completing the walk! Assist with set-up and serving of breakfast and/or lunch, ensure the area is clean and food supply is maintained, and help with the take down once everyone's bellies are full. Route Marshals- Encourage walkers as they make their way from start to finish! Ensure walkers are safe, have all their questions answered, and cheer them on as they pass you from a point along the route. Checkpoint Volunteers- Provide a time for rest, snacks, and encouragement at our designated checkpoints! Set up the tables and banners, ensure snacks and liquids are maintained, and clean up once the final walkers pass through. Finish Line- Cheer the walkers on as they cross the finish line for all they have accomplished! Team MS- Welcome teams as they arrive to the site, including assisting with the team photos, distributing team gifts, and helping with set-up and take-down of the area. There are also roles such as site set-up and take-down, parking, early check-in, and more! Training will be provided for these roles on the day of the event, with the exception of check-in, which will be asked to attend or teleconference in for a training session.

Experience and Qualifications

We accept all ages, experience levels, and capabilities! We'll find a volunteer position that fits your needs and interests.

  • Note: this DOES count toward high school students completing their 40 hours of community service.
