Overview

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyst Scientific/Technical Officer R21 Salary $52,844.14 - $60,284.55 annually BCTS was established in 2003 to offer fibre to the market through a competitive auction system. The auction system provides the basis for collecting the market price information used to drive stumpage rate determinations, and provides a credible foundation for setting stumpage rates at levels consistent with forest product markets. The Peace Liard Business Area, based out Dawson Creek, is part of BCTS' new Northern GIS Service Centre, a collaborative model where GIS resources are shared between four Business Areas, reporting to BCTS Headquarters while operating and residing locally in the participating Timber Sale Offices. The Service Centre approach allows for GIS staff to respond to GIS service requests from anywhere within the Service Centre. BCTS is a progressive, cost effective organization and staff are encouraged to pursue innovative technological solutions on behalf of all four Business Areas and the organization as a whole. As the GIS Analyst for BCTS' Peace Liard Business Area you will manage and conduct advanced spatial analysis for use in resource management planning and decision making processes. Your advanced skill set and knowledge of GIS as it relates to the natural resource sector will be relied upon throughout Peace Liard's entire business cycle - from strategic level planning, operational planning and stand level operations. Utilizing knowledge gained from past experience you perform complex spatial analysis used to help guide statutory decision makers, and support the development of systems and tools that facilitate effective reporting of data. You develop and maintain databases and ensure security, integrity, currency and compatibility through the development of efficient quality assurance processes. Experience and Qualifications

In order for applicants to be considered for this position, their resume must clearly demonstrate that they have the following education and experience: Diploma or Degree in GIS Management from a recognized technical school or university and 3 years related and current experience; or The equivalent combination of training and experience such as 5 years related and current experience. Current experience will have been gained within the last 5 years. Demonstrated experience manipulating and integrating geographical and statistical data using multiple geographic information systems, applications and relational database management systems. Demonstrated experience creating a variety of digital, graphical and descriptive products including themes, colour thematic maps, terrain model and associated descriptive statistics and tables. Demonstrated project management and administration experience including overseeing contracts. Preference may be given for natural resource sector experience conducting advanced GIS functions. Further preference may be given to applicants with forestry specific experience. WILLINGNESS STATEMENTS: - Must have and maintain a valid BC driver's licence. - Must be willing to travel with occasional overnighting to business area field office(s) and for provincial/regional/local meetings.
