TECHNICAL DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION NSGSC December 2014 Overview The North Shore Girls Soccer Club ("NSGSC") is one the largest clubs in Canada with 2600 registered youth girls and 300 women. The Club's Mission is "to provide all players the opportunity to play soccer in a supportive and rewarding environment that emphasizes fun, fair play and skill development at a level that fits their interest and ability, and to create a challenging environment for players who aspire to reach their full potential." The NGSGC has been very successful in providing a variety of development programs for all age groups, and we are the service provider to the North Vancouver School District for its high school soccer academy program for boys and girls. The NSGSC provides many of our programs through our indoor soccer facility ("the Bubble"), which is the largest of its kind in BC. The ideal candidate will have a passion and enthusiasm for working with female soccer players. You are well informed and educated on managing coach and player development programs consistent with the principles of Long Term Player Development and can create a culture for learning. You are a people person that works well in a team orientated environment, you can delegate and motivate others. As a leader, you are professional, respectful, resourceful, organized and a good communicator. You have a strong work ethic and lead by example.


Responsibilities

Duties & Responsibilities 1. Technical Leadership a. Evaluate current Academy programs and Coach and Player Development initiatives and make recommendations for improvement based on the Club's short and long-range goals and objectives. b. Act as the chief spokesperson for the club on club-level technical development matters, including external liaisons with governing bodies and leagues. Work within the community to help build the NSGSC brand and awareness of our various programs. c. Recruit, develop and directly manage the performance of the Club's compliment of remunerated Age Group Technical Coaches (AGTC), Academy Coaches and other coaching staff including Metro team coaches. d. Monitor compliance of Club curriculum with CSA LTPD guidelines. e. Provide direction and leadership for all staff coaches and team coaches. f. Establish an ongoing education program for parents rooted in the Club philosophy, Canada Sport for Life, LTPD and other related best-practices to support their children's athletic development. g. Establish partnerships with university and professional soccer organizations to ensure progression and availability of highest possible opportunities for Club's top soccer talent. 2. Technical Program Development a. Build on the Club's existing player development program base and improve program quality, delivery and communication. Ensure that the established Club style of play is implemented into both grassroots and competitive programming, and coaches are mentored on supporting and promoting a possession style of play. b. Establish structured program quality management initiatives including in-season player evaluations and try-outs. Promote the ongoing professional development of all coaches. c. Create a culture surrounding on-going coach education through annual planning and hosting of age specific LTPD Coaching Community Courses. d. Build partnerships with external technical service providers to create a fully integrated on- field and off-field coach and player development program. Support and guide the development of Club-wide curriculums for all age groups, including the development of an online technical library. e. Establish and run (through technical staff) annual summer camp programs. f. Work with our Women's program to support player and coach development, transition youth players to adult soccer and assist with the recruitment and placement of players on our Elite Women's program teams. 3. Budget Management a. Establish the Club's overall technical budget including Academy, Coach and Player Development. Work with the Board to manage related costs. b. Directly manage the technical staff budget dedicated to coaching and administrative personnel in the Club's technical department and associated programs and rep teams. c. Be responsible for the provision of data needed to accurately track the Technical Department's actual cost vs budget. 4. Reporting a. Provide the Board with monthly technical reports for inclusion in monthly management reporting. b. Oversee player skills testing and the collection of other technical data needed for evaluation of technical programs. Through AGTC program, provide in-season player evaluations for annual select team formation. c. Provide an annual review and budget recommendations for the following year. d. Contribute as part of the Club's staff management team to meeting and reporting requirements of the Club's Board of Directors and its Sub-Committees. e. Annual performance review of paid staff coaches. e. Other ad-hoc tasks as directed by the Board


Experience and Qualifications

Competencies & Skills Required 1. Minimum National B Coaching License or international equivalent, with National A preferred. 2. Knowledge of and support for the Canadian Soccer Association's Long Term Player Development (LTPD) model and Wellness To World Cup framework. 3. A proven track record in the development of large youth soccer programs at grass root level. 4. Experience with coaching female soccer player and the design of associated technical programs. 5. Knowledge of elite player development systems and how they differ and integrate with community sport programs. 6. Experience in directly hiring, managing, mentoring and motivating highly qualified, elite coaching personnel. 7. Experience with and a passion for the education and development of coaches at all levels. 8. An understanding of youth and adult soccer competition structure and how it relates to optimal player development. 9. Knowledge of the Canadian soccer landscape, and the challenges and opportunities it presents to grass root player development 10. Experience managing technical budgets and associated cost management and reporting. 11. An ability to think and plan strategically, and effectively link technical planning with broader Club goals and strategic intent. 12. Strong communications skills and an ability to convey technical planning to non-technical Club stakeholders, including the parents of players. 13. A team player, with an ability to operate as part of an integrated multi-functional management team. 14. Preference given to individuals with post secondary education; degree or diploma and/or sports related degree. 15. Is in good standing with governing bodies of soccer (Local, Provincial and National). 16. Strong use of technology and various software applications including the Microsoft Office suite and Session Planner. 17. Must be fluent in English. 18. Valid Driver's License 19.
