Overview

This position monitors a variety of textbook publications and educational materials to determine the availability of resources used in TRU-Open Learning's distance education courses in order to inform course development, maintenance, and revision schedules. The Resource Liaison Officer reports to the Associate Director Curriculum Services.


Responsibilities

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Gathers information from publishers including information on printed textbooks, custom publications, and eTexts to inform course development and revision teams.
2. Maintains records of adopted textbooks and related materials and produces reports to inform maintenance and revision schedules.
3. Liaises with publishers regarding availability of and ordering procedures for securing adopted textbooks and related materials. Orders desk copies as needed.
4. Liaises with publishers to determine upcoming titles and edition changes affecting TRU-OL courses.

SKILLS KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB

  • Intermediate skills using Word and Excel, including experience making mathematical calculations
  • Demonstrated recent and significant experience multi-tasking and working with conflicting priorities and deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and attend to fine details with excellent accuracy and thoroughness
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and maintain files
  • Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with others

    WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Sitting at desk and computer for long periods of time, general office conditions
  • Ability to lift weights to 5 kg

  • Experience and Qualifications

    Education:

  • Grade 12, plus six-month post-secondary education in business or equivalent

    Experience:
  • Three years-related experience in an inventory control environment, including experience in a computerized inventory management environment
