Developed via a partnership between Athabasca University's Centre for Innovative Management and the Canadian Police College (CPC), the Master of Business Administration (MBA) with Policing Electives is a 24-month program, delivered primarily online, designed for individuals working in the law enforcement/policing community who want to further their respective leadership and management skills in order to 'contribute at a higher level to policing strategy and decision making.' The primary objectives of the MBA program is to develop and enhance students' analytical, decision-making, inter-personal, leadership, and management abilities and to 'explore new directions in management thinking and practice' relating to law enforcement and policing. The MBA is divided into three Phases. Phase 1 provides students with 'a solid foundation in the key areas of management' via 'six core courses, followed by a comprehensive examination.' Phase 2 and Phase 3 offer students the opportunity to enroll in more advanced business courses and to specialize in Policing. There are currently three unique Policing Electives offered via the MBA program including Leadership for Policing, Making Sense of Organizational Change in a Policing Environment, and Operational Effectiveness in a Policing Organization. The latter is delivered in residence at the CPC's Police Executive Centre in Ottawa. The Program's finale consists of an applied project on a specific topic that the student chooses in consultation with 'an academic supervisor;' this project affords the student 'the opportunity to apply the program's key concepts to a real-life business situation of particular interest to' the student. |
