April 11, 2006 Source: : http://www.media.uottawa.ca/mediaroom/news_details-e.php?nid=864 CHEO and uOttawa fund three research chairs OTTAWA, April 11, 2006 — The University of Ottawa and the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario announced an exciting $6 million investment in pediatric research in three critical fields – healthy living, nursing and mental health CHEO and the University of Ottawa will establish three Research Chairs in disciplines that play an essential role in the care of children and youth. With mounting pressure to develop tangible solutions to the growing problem of obese children, the establishment of the Research Chair in Healthy Active Living in Children and Youth will prove essential to the development of fact-based research on healthy living. The Research Chair in Child and Youth Mental Health will play a key role in linking together the considerable research resources of the community in services for child and youth mental health. The Chair in Nursing Care of Children, Youth and Their Families will lead to the creation of a dedicated program in nursing care research. "This is an innovative and bold new venture that will bring the bedside, the lab bench, and the community together," said Gilles Patry, President of the University of Ottawa. "CHEO and the University of Ottawa have a long history of working for youth. Today, we are bringing together our respective passion for children and youth, and making a powerful commitment to research," said Garry Cardiff, Chief Executive Officer at CHEO. The university is currently conducting searches for all three chairholders. Announcements will be made when each chairholder is named.
