MEDICAL MISSION AIDS POOR OF PERU Thirteen students from the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry will join Dr. Bertha Garcia, the Chair of Pathology, for a medical mission to Ayacucho, a small impoverished Andean village in Peru. The group leaves London for the Ayacucho Medical Mission in June. The Peruvian Consulate of Toronto and Rocoto Peruvian Cuisine are sponsoring a social event to raise money for the trip. "Rhythm, Taste and Style of Peru" will be held Saturday April 22, 6 to 11 p.m. at the Unitarian Fellowship Hall, 557 Clarke Rd. in London. The night includes a Peruvian buffet, live performances, Latin-American dancing and a silent auction of Peruvian handicrafts. RUNNER SENDS SHOES TO CUBA Bethany Janzen, a third-year Kinesiology student and long distance running star for the Western Mustangs, is collecting "previously enjoyed" athletic footwear to send to a community in Placetas, Cuba at the end of July. Janzen had visited Placetas as a high school student with a group to run a day camp for local children. While there, she saw how the youth of the city could benefit from the shoes that Canadians throw away each year. Janzen is a multiple Ontario University Athletics (OUA) medalist in cross country.
