April 20, 2006 Source: : http://communications.uwo.ca/media_newsroom/story.html?listing_id=21206 MPPs to Tour Schulich Dental Clinics - Media Advisory WHAT: Six members of the Ontario Legislature, including the Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities, Chris Bentley, are touring the Dental Clinics at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western. The Ontario Dental Association will also have a representative attending. The Dental Clinics handled over 14-thousand patient visits last year. Third and fourth year dental students provide care at a reduced rate to patients while perfecting their skills under the guidance of a practicing dentist. Attracting and retaining dentists as clinical teachers has become a serious challenge, given the current level of government funding for dental schools in Ontario. The clinics at Western are also used as a learning resource for students in the dental hygiene and dental assistant programs at Fanshawe College. This tour will showcase the important role these clinics play in providing affordable dental care to the community while adding to the best student experience.
