Acadia faculty recognized for contributions to teaching, research, and service

(Wolfville, NS) - Acadia University and the Associated Alumni of Acadia University (AAAU) have announced the recipients of the 2006 AAAU Faculty Awards. The awards recognize the valuable contributions of Acadia’s faculty in teaching, research, and service to the community.

"We are thrilled to acknowledge the outstanding faculty of Acadia University," says Gordon Lummis, President of the AAAU. "Our alumni are proud of the personalized education they received from Acadia’s distinguished faculty and want to honour them."

This year’s award recipients are Dr. Stephen Maitzen (Department of Philosophy) for Excellence in Teaching, Dr. Craig Evans (School of Theology) for Excellence in Research, and Dr. Tom Herman (Department of Biology) for Excellence in Community Engagement.

"Dr. Maitzen, Dr. Evans, and Dr. Herman have clearly demonstrated their commitment to our students, our university, and our community," said Dr. Ralph Nilson, Vice-President Academic. "We are proud of our excellent faculty and celebrate their passion for teaching and creating learning environments that go well beyond the classroom into the communities we serve."

The recipients were chosen by a committee of faculty and members of the AAAU Awards Committee. Faculty awards will be presented as part of Acadia University’s Spring Convocation ceremonies to be held May 14 and 15, 2006.
