Among the ten awards presented three recipients were Schulich School of Engineering professors: Dr. Anil Mehrotra, Dr. Janet Ronsky and Dr. William Rosehart. The 16th annual awards event presented by the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA) recognizes remarkable individuals and corporate members for their accomplishments in engineering, geology and geophysics. Dr. Anil K. Mehrotra, P.Eng.: L.C. Charlesworth Professional Service Award - Awarded to members who have served their profession diligently for many years and who have made substantial contributions to the operation of the Association and the advancement of its professional status. Dr. Anil K. Mehrotra, P.Eng., has been a professor in the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering in the Schulich School of Engineering, University of Calgary since 1981. In 2002, he was appointed Director of the Centre for Environmental Engineering Research and Education (CEERE). Over the past several years, Dr. Mehrotra has served APEGGA diligently in a number of capacities including He has been on the Executive Committee of APEGGA’s Board of Examiners for almost 10 years as an academic examiner for the disciplines of chemical engineering and environmental engineering. Additionally, he is a member of the APEGGA Nominating Committee. Dr. Mehrotra is also involved with other professional organizations. In the past four years, he has been a program visitor for three visiting teams of the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB). In 2000, he represented APEGGA on a committee of the Canadian Engineering Qualifications Board (CEQB) for developing the first national examination syllabus for environmental engineering. Additionally, he serves as a reviewer for numerous scientific, engineering and professional journals and has organized several international conferences. Dr. Mehrotra has also been very active in university, faculty and departmental committees at the University of Calgary. •Dr. Janet L. Ronsky, P.Eng.: Excellence in Education Award - Awarded to members of APEGGA who have made exemplary contributions to teaching and learning at a recognized post-secondary teaching establishment in Alberta. Dr. Janet L. Ronsky, P.Eng., is an outstanding educator – a gifted teacher who exhibits a passion for engineering education and research, an enthusiasm for life and a genuine concern for her students. Consistently evaluated as an exceptional instructor, she has one of the best teaching records in the Schulich School of Engineering, where she has taught since 1994, garnering numerous awards. A professor in the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, and with the Faculty of Kinesiology, Dr. Ronsky has also served as the inaugural Director of the Centre for Bioengineering Research and Education since 2003. Dr. Ronsky’s commitment to the development of an undergraduate Biomedical Engineering Specialization was also recognized in 2003. Her involvement has also been key to the development of graduate and undergraduate programs in bioengineering and an inter-university (University of Calgary and University of Alberta) graduate Biomedical Engineering Program. Dr. Ronsky also recently developed a new inquiry-based, research-oriented biomechanics course. As an internationally-recognized expert in biomechanics and a leader in her field, Dr. Ronsky has provided outstanding guidance and instruction and has proven to be an inspirational mentor for many undergraduate and graduate students, as well as post-doctoral fellows. Dr. William (Bill) Rosehart, P.Eng.: Early Accomplishment Award - Awarded to members of APEGGA in recognition of exceptional achievement in their early years of a professional career as an engineer, geologist or geophysicist. Dr. William (Bill) Rosehart, P.Eng., graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Honours) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo in 1996. By 2001, he had received both his Master of Applied Science and PhD in Electrical Engineering from the same institution. He then began his career in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Calgary and has already accomplished a great deal as both an educator and a researcher. In the four years that he has been with the Schulich School of Engineering, Dr. Rosehart has had a great influence. His successes have led to his recent promotion from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor and to his appointments as the Director of the Electrical Engineering Undergraduate Program and as an Associate Chair for the NSERC Design Chair in Life Cycle Engineering. Dr. Rosehart publication record is also very impressive with 15 peer-reviewed journal papers and 29 peer-reviewed conference papers to his credit. Dr. Rosehart has presented papers at several prestigious national and international conferences and his expertise in the field was recognized with several media interviews about the massive August 2003 power outage that affected Eastern Canada and much of the Northeastern U.S. For more information APEGGA Summit Awards please visit: www.apegga.org .
