Source: University Relations Office (URO) [newswire]
April 25, 2006

As the price of oil smashed through the $75-a-barrel record in recent days and gasoline prices in Canada rose from three to five percent last week over the previous week, media and consumers are sifting through the implications, from micro to macro, from wallet to voting intention to economic ramifications. The following McGill experts can help:
Gas pricing

Christopher Ragan is a professor in McGill's Department of Economics and has served as a special advisor for the Bank of Canada. Ragan has been closely following the rise of oil and gas prices and their effect on the economy, inflation and real economic growth. He can be reached at 514-398-8958 or by email.
Energy alternatives

Corey Leclerc is a professor in McGill's Department of Chemical Engineering and an expert on the processing of alternative fuels, with a focus on hydrogen fuel cells. Corey Leclerc can be reached at 514-398-8308 or by email.
Biofuels/climate

Don Smith is a professor in McGill's plant science department and is currently the head of a national research network on crops and climate change. Smith is involved in research on biofuel production, climate change and the interactions between energy consumption and climate. He can be reached at 514-398-7866 or by email.
Gas prices and the travel industry

Karl Moore is a professor in McGill's Desautels Faculty of Management and an expert on globalization and management strategy. Moore can provide insight on the impact of oil and gas prices on industry, particularly the airline industry. He can be reached at 514-398-4138 or email.
