April 28, 2006 Source: : http://www.laurentian.ca/?file=newsrelease/2006/april/apr28_abramia_e.php Dr. Gregory Abramia, environmental scientist, to speak at Laurentian Dr. Gregory Abramia, Director of the International Centre for Environmental Research (ICFER), Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia, will be visiting Laurentian University the week of April 25, 2006. ICFER's main mission is to help develop a national environmental policy in Georgia that will promote sustainable development. This organization is involved in a variety of projects ranging from the elaboration of an ornithological atlas of Georgia and the utilization of bacteriophages against antibiotic resistant bacteria in poultry. Dr. Abramia has also been an important architect of the Biodiversity Report in Georgia, and is actively pursuing the development of technologies that will enable the production of biofuels and alternative sources of energy. He is also part of an international team working on the Black Sea Strategic National Plan. Dr. Abramia is at Laurentian University as a part of a NATO project examining different biotechnological processes that can be utilized in the reduction of pollution in the Black Sea. He will be giving a presentation entitled "Environmental Challenges facing the Black Sea " on Monday May 1, 2006 at 12:30 in room S-217.
