A limited number of tickets for the screening and VIP Gala party are available for only $50 - first come, first serve. The 26th Atlantic Film Festival, will present Zacharias Kunuk and Norman Cohn's highly acclaimed film The Journals of Knud Rasmussen as this year's Empire Theatres Opening Night Gala screening. Inuit director Zacharias Kunuk has followed up his international breakout hit Atanarjuat - The Fast Runner with this Canada-Denmark co-production. Set in 1922, The Journals of Knud Rasmussen tells the story of the difficult and conflicting choices facing a Shaman, Avva, and his daughter Apak when Christianity arrives in the Canadian North and begins to affect their culture and impact their way of life. Opaque, mystical and driven by a desire for authenticity, The Journals of Knud Rasmussen is a mesmerizing exploration of the collision between native and non-native cultures. The Journals of Knud Rasmussen stars Pakak Innukshuk, Leah Angutimarik, Neeve Uttak, Samuelie Ammaq, Abraham Ulayuruluk, Natar Ungalaaq, Peter-Henry Arnatsiaq, Sofie Danielsen, Piuaitsoq Petersen, Jakob Cedergren, Jens Jørn Spottag, and Kim Bodnia. IFC Opening Night Party is on Argyle Street again with headline act the Acadian band Blou! Last year local papers called this event the party of the year.
