August 25, 2006 Source: : http://www.unbc.ca/releases/2006/08_25orientation.html Orientation 2006 Leading up to and coinciding with the start of classes on September 5th, the University of Northern British Columbia will be hosting an array of student orientation events. The Northern Degrees Orientation is open to all first-time UNBC students and more than 300 new students are expected to participate. This two-day Orientation begins on Friday, September 1, with a Presidential Assembly at 10:30am in the Canfor Theatre. It will be followed by a noon BBQ in the courtyard hosted by the President for new students, their families, and faculty and staff. After the Labour Day weekend, events are planned for all students returning to UNBC: September 5 – Northern Undergraduate Student Society (NUGSS) & Community Day Displays profiling student services and community non-profit organizations. September 6 – Business Day About 35 local businesses will have displays throughout the Agora providing information on goods and services available in Prince George. This event is a fundraiser for Shinerama (see below), with businesses paying a small fee to participate. September 7 – NSC Day Information about the new Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre will be provided and NUGSS will host a mini Sports Day. September 8 – Clubs Day UNBC has more than 40 student clubs and many of them will have displays on campus as they recruit new members. September 9 – Shinerama This 10th annual event attracts more than 300 students who fan out around Prince George to raise money for the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The goal this year is $15,000. September 15 – Backyard BBQ Held on campus after classes end for the week, the Backyard BBQ will feature live music and be free for UNBC students. Details about the event will be provided by NUGSS.
