London, ON. - The following items regarding the start of the new academic year at The University of Western Ontario may be Of Interest.


  • NEW STUDENTS & NEW FACULTY

    Approximately 32,000 students, including 4,350 first-year students have started to descend on campus as the beginning of the academic year draws near with close to 100 new faculty also joining the Western this fall. Some of these new hires have come from as far away as Japan and Switzerland.

    RESIDENCE MOVE-IN DAYS

    Students living in residence begin moving into Western's residences this Sunday, September 3rd, including the new London Hall for second and upper year students. Opening Ceremonies for Orientation Week take place on the evening of Monday, September 4th and classes marking the start of the 2006/07 academic year get underway Thursday, September 7th.

    NEW COURSES

    This September students will have the chance to sign up for a variety of new academic programs at Western. Some of these include:

  • Minor in Refugees and the Displaced introduced in the Department of Anthropology by the Faculty of Social Science. Contact: professor Randa Farah, 519-661-2111 ext. 85088
  • Minor in Game Development introduced in the Department of Computer Science by the Faculty of Science. Contact: professor Mike Katchabaw, 519-661-4059
