New LU Students are arriving on Campus, The 2006 Orientation Team is ready!

Sudbury (Ontario) - The 2006 LU Orientation Team, nicknamed the "Fantastic Four", is dedicated to making every new student's first year at Laurentian out of the ordinary and an unforgettable event! The team members, as well as new students, are no longer counting the days before the beginning of the university year, but the hours. The "Fantastic Four" is ready. After a lot of hard work, the team will offer a series of exciting orientation activities for all first year students, on and off campus.

Working with the Students' General Association (SGA), the Association des étudiantes et étudiants francophones (AEF), Laurentian Off-Campus Students (LOCS), the federated universities and related Laurentian services, the 2006 Orientation Team invites new students to attend brand new activities along with the traditional LU orientation events. From the Fantastic Race to the Info Fair, every new student will find his or her place, from today until September 21.
The Fantastic Race
When: Tuesday, September 5, at 5 p.m. Starts at the Great Hall

Have you always dreamed of participating in the American reality show .The Amazing Race.? Why, when you can participate in Laurentian University's Fantastic Race! For the first time in this University's history, a team of experts in the conception of challenges has been working day and night to create one of the most fantastic activities ever organized for new students.

Ten teams of four will participate in different tasks in pharmacies, grocery stores, at the beach and in restaurants in Greater Sudbury's South End.
This race is exclusively for new students living off-campus and those who sign up for Students Helping Students (SHS). To sign-up for the Fantastic Race, please fill out the registration form available at www.orientation.laurentian.ca as soon as possible. Places are limited. « Parcours Laurentienne » Play
When: Monday, September 4 and Tuesday September 5, from noon till 2 p.m.
Starts at the Great Hall

This year, Laurentian University is in the process of developing a traveling play in French that promises to be the most entertaining of all the planned activities. Laurentian students will have the opportunity to be walking spectators in a play presented exclusively outdoors. This theatrical production will give new students the opportunity to visit various sites of the Laurentian campus and experience different live situations with the actors. The ultimate purpose of the "Parcours Laurentienne" is to help new students understand challenges of university life.

With the Community Rights Centre, Parking and Security Service, LU's Arts d'expression program, this play is written and directed by Jean-Paul Courtemanche, a 2006 graduate of the Arts d'expression program. The actors are all students in this very same program.
Information Fair 2006
When: Saturday and Sunday, September 2 and 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
At the Great Hall

Info Fair 2006 is the essential meeting area for Laurentian University new students. In order to meet fellow students, deans of certain faculties, members of the administration that are there to help, and to get to know all the services the University offers, over 30 information kiosks are installed in the Great Hall. In one stop, new students can obtain their student card, buy a parking permit or Aramark meal cards and negotiate a student loan with the National Centre for Loans. Prizes will be given away and Lunch will be served to new students and their families at the entrance of the Great Hall.,/p>

The Orientation Kiosk,
Still unsure where to find your classes or certain student services? Visit the Orientation Kiosk during the first week of classes to get directions and answers to your questions. The Information Kiosk is situated on the main floor of the Arts Building, commonly known as the .Bowling Alley., and will be opened from Tuesday, September 5 to Thursday, September 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and on Friday, September 8, from 9 a.m. to noon.

More than 30 activities have been planned for new LU students: a Night with the Stars at the Planetarium, a beach volley-ball tournament, a casino night, orientation sessions for mature students, concerts, etc. To consult the complete activity calendar, visit the Orientation Web site: www.orientation.laurentian.ca.
