Emerado pro series concert features faculty from three Manitoba universities

BRANDON, MB – On Tuesday, February 21st at 8:00 p.m., the Brandon University School of Music pro series continues with a performance by Emerado at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall (In the Queen Elizabeth II Music Building).

Founded in the summer of 2004, Emerado is a rare musical collaboration between vocalists and instrumentalists that brings together some of Manitoba’s most accomplished and engaging performers. The four performers that make up Emerado share a passion for the art of ensemble music and perform a unique repertoire that ranges from classical to cabaret and from baroque opera to romantic song.

Making its pro series debut, Emerado highlights the talents of musicians who teach at three Manitoba universities. Canadian Mennonite University's Rosemarie van der Hooft (mezzo-soprano) and University of Manitoba's Mel Braun (baritone) both have extensive performing experience in many genres, from baroque to contemporary works. Laura Loewen, also from the U of M, has worked as a collaborative artist as well as chamber musician in North America and Europe. Brandon University's Mark Rudoff is a graduate of the Juilliard School of Music and has performed with orchestras on both sides of the border, including the Calgary Philharmonic.

The program for Emerado’s pro series debut will include works spanning four centuries by composers Henry Purcell, Ludwig Van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Maurice Ravel, Gaspar Cassad, Libby Larsen, William Bolcom, Chester Duncan and Benjamin Britten.

Tickets for all pro series concerts are $12 for adults, $8 for seniors, alumni and students, and $6 for Conservatory students. Seating is limited. Programmes are subject to change.

The next pro series concert will be held on Tuesday, March 7 and will feature Pierre Réach on piano. A long-standing professor at the famed Paris Conservatoire, Réach is slated to perform Symphonie Fantastique by Berlioz and Liszt.

The pro series and the School of Music gratefully acknowledge the generous support of The Canada Council for the Arts, the Manitoba Arts Council and of the Province of Manitoba, through a Consolidated Arts Programming Grant from Culture, Heritage and Tourism.
