February 20, 2006 Source: Mount Allison University: http://www.mta.ca/news/?id=929 Glenn Adams Exhibit at Owens Art Gallery — Opening reception to be held Feb. 26 SACKVILLE, NB — Well-known Sackville artist Glenn Adams will be featured in a career retrospective exhibition at the Owens Art Gallery. Entitled Of Stillness and a Quiet Mind, the exhibition features over 45 paintings, drawings, and digital works done by Glenn Adams dating from the 1960s to the present day. Works have been borrowed from public and private collections in Sackville and across Canada, including the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Macdonald Stewart Art Centre at the University of Guelph, the University of New Brunswick, and the City of Moncton. The Owens Art Gallery’s collection of works by Glenn Adams will also be included in the exhibition, which opens Sunday, February 26 at 3 p.m. Glenn Adams is an artist and an engineer. His university degrees are in Science and Engineering (B.Sc. 1949, M.Sc. 1950, Ph.D. 1953), all from McGill University. He worked as an aircraft engineer for Canadair Ltd. in Montreal, and began painting in 1958, at the age of 30. He took art classes in Montreal from Patrick Landsley, Guy Viau, Moe Reinblatt, and others. He attended an art workshop at Mount Allison University in 1960 given by Lawren P. Harris and Jacques de Tonnancour and in the same year he visited Alex Colville in his studio and began corresponding with him about his paintings. He then took a seven-month leave of absence from Canadair to spend the 1962-63 academic year at Mount Allison, taking selected second and third year Fine Arts courses from Harris, Colville, and Helen Dow. In September 1963, he was one of seven Canadian artists to exhibit work at the Banfer Gallery in New York City. Since then, he has developed a career as an artist living and working in Sackville, producing paintings, drawings and digital images remarkable for their precise and considered approach. Of Stillness and a Quiet Mind has been organized by the Owens Art Gallery and curated by Fredette Frame. All are welcome to attend the opening reception on Sunday, February 26 at 3 p.m. Opening remarks will be given by Sackville artist Andrea Mortson and Glenn Adams will be present.
