CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY SIGNS AGREEMENTS WITH TWO UNIVERSITIES IN FRANCE

MONTREAL/February 21, 2006 —

Concordia now has eight bilateral agreements in France

Concordia University has signed agreements with two universities in France, l’Ecole centrale d’électronique (ECE) Paris and Paris-Dauphine University. The agreements were signed yesterday by Concordia’s President Claude Lajeunesse, a member of Montreal Mayor Gerald Tremblay’s 5-day mission to Paris.

With the objective of promoting academic linkages, the universities will explore and implement mutually rewarding initiatives focusing on student exchange; collaborative research; co-sponsorship of academic projects, and conferences; sharing of scientific information; and other academic collaboration including curriculum and faculty exchange.

"Through agreements between the Québec and French universities, Concordia has had many successful student exchanges, but these bilateral relationships give more scope to the possible activities and discussions of curriculum," said President Lajeunesse. "Both the ECE and Paris-Dauphine are partners with whom a strong and dynamic relationship can be developed in areas of strength on both sides".

More precisely, the agreement in principle with the ECE will develop academic cooperation with Concordia’s Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science. The Faculty of Arts and Science at Concordia will be included in the discussions should areas of study and research in the sciences be added.

The agreement between Concordia and Paris-Dauphine University, which Concordia has had a relationship with in the past, will focus initially on areas of mutual interest in management, economics, applied mathematics, and computer science and could later expand, by agreement of both parties, to include other interested departments and Faculties.
