But what do transit users really think about this service? On February 3rd, 2006, Halifax transit will be put to the test. How efficient is transit? What is it really like to depend on transit on a daily basis? What do transit users have to say about what they love and hate about buses, bikes, boats, taxis, trains, and automobiles? These questions are a few that a handful of Planning students from Dalhousie hope to answer as they embark on a quest of transit discovery. Equipped with cameras, camcorders, and questions, these students are on a mission to unveil the truth about transit. The results of the day will be showcased at Dalhousie School of Planning’s annual conference. This year’s theme, Bringing Transit Home brings together leaders in urban planning with students and the community to develop a guiding vision for the future of transit in the Halifax region. The conference will be held on the following dates and venues: February 9: Alderney Landing (Dartmouth Waterfront) 7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. (Keynote) February 10: Alderney Landing (Dartmouth Waterfront) 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. February 11: Kenneth Rowe Management Building (Dalhousie) 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. The keynote speaker is Todd Littman, founder and director of the Victoria Transport Policy Institute.
