Nipissing University offering tastes of the world

North Bay, ON, Thursday, February 2, 2006 — Tasty treats from around the world will be on offer at Nipissing University Saturday, February 4, as the university hosts its second annual international food festival.

The festival runs from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. in the Education Centre cafeteria. It will feature international culinary creations from about 25 individuals and local businesses as well as entertainment including everything from bellydancing and fiddle music to British pub songs and salsa dancing. Countries represented include Australia, Poland, Peru, Germany, Italy, Israel, Sri Lanka, Ireland, Spain, Mexico, Barbados, France, the United States, the Caribbean and, of course, Canada.

Tickets are available at the door and are $10/person or $25 for a family.

The food festival is organized by Nipissing University’s local World University Service Committee (WUSC) as part of International Development Week. All proceeds support WUSC’s Student Refugee Sponsorship Program at Nipissing University.

"The festival is sure to be a great time for everyone and it supports a very worthwhile cause," said Melissa Toupin-Laforge, a fourth-year business student and the festival organizer. "It is really wonderful to be able to bring the local community to campus and to promote the international flavour of Nipissing University and our city. There are a number of local restaurants who are participating and we definitely appreciate their support as we do the faculty, staff, students and citizens who are contributing to the menu."
