Marketing finalists getting ready to roll
Finalists in the University of Regina Faculty of Business Administration’s ‘Bridges to International Practice’ marketing program were named today.

The program – part of an innovative fourth year marketing class offered by the Faculty – involves a partnership between the Faculty, the Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership (STEP), and iQmedX, a Saskatchewan-based health-care technology firm.

Under the program, 45 fourth-year students enrolled in the course worked in teams with iQmedX to develop a new market and a new product (software to assist doctors’ offices with scheduling and billing patients, and with providing online access to files) for the company. Each team prepared a comprehensive marketing plan to export iQmedX’s solution into the U.S. market.

The teams then submitted their proposals for evaluation in mid-November. The eight finalists – 15 students in all – were chosen based on the evaluation of their proposal. The finalists won a chance to make a Dec. 2 presentation to a jury consisting of three faculty, two iQmedX executives and a STEP representative.

The prize? The top teams – a total of four or five students – will move to a more advanced marketing course in the next semester, beginning in Jan., 2006. Activities in that course will include travel in the United States, partly at iQmedX expense, to validate their earlier work. At the end of the semester the team will present a complete plan to iQmedX, which may use the research and data to develop its business. One student will also receive a 12-month internship with the company.

Finalists for the Dec. 2 presentation are: Jamie Nugent and Dave Best; Dallas Lezinsky and Tami Mitchell; Rory Hedley and Andrew Rink; Thomas Chan; John Waller and Scott Waller; Allix Schweitzer and Tiffany Cole; Julie Markwart and Laura Fellinger, and; Morgan Isaak and Lindsay Krawetz.
