CBU Launches its Condo and Car Lottery Fundraiser

(Sydney, NS) – Grab your shamrocks and leprechaun charms! Cape Breton University is asking everyone to call on the Luck of the Irish for its latest fundraising campaign. Today, November 23, 2005, University representatives gathered with community partners and volunteers to announce details of the campaign.

"We’re pleased to launch this exciting and unique lottery fundraiser," says Avvie Druker, Chair of the Volunteer Steering Committee. "It’s not everyday someone has the chance to win a fully furnished condo and a brand new car!"

University President John Harker notes that many local businesses played an integral role in getting the lottery off the ground. "Joneljim and The Wentworth Condominium project, Ramsay’s Honda, Finishing Touch Centre and Burkes Countrywide Furniture are all enthusiastically committed to making this project a reality," he said. "This is an excellent example of the community and the University working together to contribute to the future growth of this Island’s post-secondary education." Additional supporters include City Printers and Cape Breton Post.

Proceeds from the lottery will be added to the Future First fundraising initiative announced in May. The goal of the Future First national fundraising campaign is to double the University’s endowment fund to $7 million. The condo lottery announced today is expected to contribute several hundred thousand dollars to the fund which ultimately creates enhanced opportunities for students to study at Cape Breton University.

"There’s already a buzz in the community," says Druker. "So we’re encouraging everyone to get their tickets early."

Tickets are $100 each and go on sale today. Anyone interested in purchasing a ticket can call Cape Breton University at 1-800-282-0314 or visit their web site www.capebretonu.ca. One draw will be made for the condo and car prize on March 17, 2006.

"Since the draw date is St. Patrick’s Day, we’ve decided to add a bit of Irish charm to the lottery," says Druker. "Everyone is having fun with the Luck of the Irish theme we’ve created for the entire campaign. Winning a condo and a car is quite the pot of gold!"
