MSVU Confers Honorary Degree on Respected Physician

October 10, 2006

October 10, 2006, Halifax – Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU) will present an
honorary degree to Dr. Linda Inkpen, MD, CM, at its Fall Convocation
ceremony.

"Dr. Inkpen has made substantial contributions to the field of medicine and
to her community," says Professor Kathryn Laurin, President and
Vice-Chancellor of MSVU. "Her dedication and passion are evident through her
academic achievements and her extensive volunteering and community
involvement. Dr. Inkpen is an excellent role model and welcome addition to
the MSVU family."

Dr. Inkpen is an active Medical Practitioner in St. John’s, Newfoundland and
Labrador. She graduated from Memorial University in 1969, 1970, 1972 and
1974 with degrees in Science, Education, Medical Science and Medicine. She
has practiced medicine since graduating and has also pursued other interests
and endeavours. She is past chair of Newfoundland Power, board chair for
Fortis Properties and an active director of the parent company, Fortis Inc.
Dr. Inkpen was President of Cabot College (now College of the North
Atlantic) from 1987 to 1993, and has served on and chaired numerous
commissions, committees and inquiries at both the provincial and federal
levels. She has been a lay member of the Newfoundland Law Society and worked
in many volunteer capacities.

Currently, Dr. Inkpen is a member of The National Round Table on the
Environment and the Economy. She also chairs the Medical Advisory Committee
for the Eastern Health Board in Newfoundland and Labrador. She has been the
recipient of many awards and honours, most notably Memorial University’s
Alumna of the Year Award, the Order of Canada and the Queen’s Jubilee Medal.
Dr. Inkpen resides in St. Philips with her husband and three sons.

Dr. Inkpen will receive the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters at
the Convocation ceremony, taking place on Sunday, October 22 at 9:30 a.m.
