October 10

United Way Campaign Launch
11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., in front of Montpetit Hall, across from 110 University,
Ottawa (in case of rain, the event will be moved to the Terminus, 2nd floor,
University Centre)
A barbecue and entertainment in front of Montpetit Hall will mark the start
of the University of Ottawa’s 2006 United Way Campaign. Line your pockets
and purses with loonies and toonies and join the race for United Way. All
monies collected will go toward the uOttawa United Way Campaign.

President’s Award for Service to the University through Media and Community
Relations
Panel discussion: "Working the world: How journalists cover the global beat"
5:30 p.m., Tabaret Hall, Room 112 (550 Cumberland Street, Ottawa)
The President's Award for Service to the University through Media and
Community Relations recognizes a member of the University of Ottawa
community who has demonstrated outstanding service to the University by
sharing his or her expertise with the larger community through the media.
This year’s recipients include Claudio Brun del Re, Assistant Director,
Physical Resources and Sébastian Grammond, Assistant Professor, Faculty of
Law, Civil Law Section. The awards presentation will be followed by a panel
discussion at 6 p.m. with Patrice Roy from Radio-Canada, and Lisa Laflamme
from CTV News.

Walk of Arts
1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. University Promenade (85 University Private, Ottawa)
An exciting contest will display the artistic talent of numerous University
of Ottawa students. The contest consists of 30 teams comprised of two
students each, who will create sidewalk drawings on the University
Promenade.

Morisset Library Launch
2:30 p.m., Morisset Library, 5th floor (65 University Private, Ottawa)
The newly renovated spaces in the Morisset Library will be officially opened
by University of Ottawa President, Gilles Patry, and Leslie Weir, University
Librarian. This opening event also marks the launch of the new library
services: the computer lab, laptop loan service and the Mentoring Centre.

Alan Cumyn Reading
7:30 p.m., Arts Building, room 509 (70 Laurier Ave. East, Ottawa)
Writer in residence and critically acclaimed author Alan Cumyn will be
reading from his new novel The Famished Lover, which has just been
longlisted for the Giller Prize.

Matt Anthony Field Induction
11:30 a.m. - 1:15 p.m., Sports Complex (801 King Edward Avenue, Ottawa)
This event is to recognize former Gee-Gees football coach, Matt Anthony, for
his dedication to the University of Ottawa by marking the football field
with his name – a constant reminder of his generous spirit. There will be a
football game to follow the field induction at Lansdowne Park.
