October 11, 2006

The
Centre for International Studies at Cape Breton University Presents

WAR and PROFIT

Colombia
is home to three
million internally displaced persons.

El Cerrejón, the world’s largest open-pit coal mine, is adding to that
statistic.

Cape Breton University Political Science students Suzanne MacNeil and Karen
Murphy recently returned from participating in a delegation investigating
human rights and mining issues in Colombia.

They will discuss the plight of communities displaced by both the country’s
conflict and
by the activities of multinational corporations, and the Nova Scotia
connection to these issues.

Friday, October 13
