National Choir Performs at Brandon UniversityOctober 12, 2006 "A national treasure"—Montreal Gazette
 "Beyond brilliant . . . Don't miss this choir"—Hamilton Spectator
BRANDON, MB - The acclaimed Canadian Chamber Choir (CCC) presents the opening concert of the Brandon University Dean's Series, Wednesday October
18th, in Lorne Watson Recital Hall of the Queen Elizabeth II Music Building
on the campus of the Brandon University at 8:00 p.m. This unique ensemble
uniting 17 professional singers from across the country, including a number
of singers with a link to Brandon (see below for contact info), is under the
 direction of Dr. Julia Davids
The choir launched its inaugural project in Brandon in 2001 and is thrilled to return as part of its 2006 Manitoba tour, which will also include a
residency at the Mennonite Collegiate Institute in Gretna, collaborations
and workshops in Steinbach and Winnipeg.
The concert, called Everything Old is New Again features numerous contemporary settings of old texts and explorations of old genres (such as
chant, and ancient Celtic modes) by mainly Canadian composers. Works include
"Exaudi" by former Brandon university student Jocelyn Morlock, "Dona Nobis"
by Dylan Bell, "Keltic Suite" by Allan Rae, and compositions by R. Murray
Schafer, Harry Freedman and Eleanor Daley.
Conductor Davids enthusiastically sums up the mission of the CCC: "There is a Canadian story to be told and the CCC is here to tell that story. The
CCC's passionate and exciting concerts build connections with audiences of
all ages in all communities across Canada. Building connections is what
choral music, and what life is all about."
Members of the choir come together at least twice a year, donating their time to perform and give workshops to develop young singers, conductors and
composers. Their recent tour in February of 2006 took them all over southern
Ontario; they have traveled as far west as Vancouver and as far east as Nova
Scotia, garnering critical rave reviews and winning fans with their
"extraordinary refinements [of dynamic shading]", "flawless intonation", and
 "polished blend" (Montreal Gazette).
TICKETS are $12.00 for Adults, $8.00 for Seniors/Students/Alumni, and $6.00 for Conservatory Students, and can be purchased at the Brandon University
