International wildlife conservation presentation at Nipissing University

North Bay, ON, October 13, 2005 — Nipissing University’s Biology Society welcomes Dr. Justin Hines of Operation Wallacea for a presentation on international wildlife conservation. The lecture takes place on Monday October 17, at 3:30 p.m. at the university in room F213.

Dr. Hines’ presentation will focus on Operation Wallacea’s unique approach of scientific conservation expeditions. Expeditions are made up of teams featuring biologists, geographers and anthropologists. They are currently researching biodiversity and its socio-economic impact in Sulawesi, Egypt, South Africa, Cuba and Honduras. The teams are committed to partnering and working with local communities while producing a wealth of research, with over 25 papers published each year.

Operation Wallacea is a non-profit organization committed to biology and social science research expeditions. It is named after its first project which took place in Wallacea, Indonesia in 1995.

Dr. Hines is keen to talk to Nipissing’s undergraduates from relevant departments (Biology, Geography) who might be interested in joining the research programs during their summer holidays.

The event is open to the public and is free of charge. Seating is limited.
