Brandon University and Assiniboine Community College Students Team Up for Second Annual Trick or Treat Halloween Food Drive
October 26, 2006
The Brandon University Studentsí Union (BUSU) and Assiniboine Community College Studentsí Association (ACCSA) will again be teaming up to canvas Brandon for non-perishable food items as part of their second annual Trick or Treat Halloween Food Drive. The food drive, which benefits the BUSU and ACCSA food banks, will be held on October 31 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Volunteers from BUSU will be going door-to-door in the west end of Brandon asking for donations of non-perishable food items, while volunteers from ACCSA will be canvassing the east end of the city.
This yearís food drive will again feature a competition between the student organizations of each respective campus. Brandon University Studentsí Union President Stacy Senkbeil and Assiniboine Community College Studentsí Association President Brett Wray will be competing to see who can secure the greatest amount of donations for their food bank. With student usage at both campus food banks on the rise, the Presidents hope to raise more than the nearly 4,000 lbs. of food collected during last yearís successful food drive.
Brandon residents are asked to please give generously to this important cause. Preferred donations include canned meats and vegetables, pastas and spaghetti sauce, personal hygiene items, baby food and diapers, juice, breakfast items, peanut butter, and boxed meals. Participants of the food drive can be identified by their volunteer tags and will also be presenting flyers at each home they canvas. Results of the Presidentsí competition will be announced following the food drive at a special Halloween social at 9:30pm in SUDS.
