Mount Allison to hold Open House, Nov. 4

SACKVILLE, NB — Want to learn more about what one of the top undergraduate schools in Canada has to offer? On Friday, November 4, Mount Allison University will be hosting its annual Open House! Initially geared towards high school students, teachers, guidance counsellors, and parents, it’s becoming a great opportunity for anyone considering Mount A as a place to pursue their learning endeavours or for someone simply interested in the work and life of Mount Allison students and faculty. The Open House will take place throughout the whole campus from 9 a.m. until approximately 2 p.m.

Manager of admissions and director of continuous learning, Heather Patterson, says, "There will be something for everyone. While students can book individual campus tours anytime during the year, the Open House will give us a special opportunity to showcase much of the vibrant life and activities at Mount Allison, in and out of the classroom. It allows high school students, teachers, and parents to get a feel for the number and quality of wonderful offerings at our university."

Mount Allison students, faculty, and staff will be on hand to answer questions and there will be tours taking place throughout the day. Participants can sit in on many open classes, including music, science labs and experiments, vocal classes, art and printmaking, and math. Other activities include four separate art exhibitions and tours in the Owens Art Gallery (the oldest university art gallery in the country), a full day of music performances and music/vocal classes and a complimentary buffet lunch in our state-of-the-art dining hall. As Mount Allison has more than 140 clubs and societies on campus, many of the group’s representatives will be available to provide information and answer questions. There will be representation from student groups including the Students’ Administrative Council, the Ultimate Frisbee Club, various dance groups, language clubs, sports teams, fund raising groups, and the Argosy, Mount Allison’s independent student newspaper. Visitors will be able to meet with current students and tour campus facilities such as CHMA, the campus and community radio station (housing over 15,000 CDs), the Marjorie Young Bell Music Conservatory, residences, and Mount Allison’s athletic centre which has many programs and great facilities, including the brand-new fitness centre opened last spring.

Special information sessions will be also be held for parents, teachers, and guidance counsellors in Tweedie Hall. Over coffee and refreshments they will be kept up to date on such topics as financial aid, residence and student life, academic requirements, and student care while studying at Mount Allison.
