Celebrations in London, on October 5th, include the Teachers' Wall of Fame Ceremony at 3 p.m. in the Stevenson-Hunt Room at the Central Library. This year's inductees are Bob Chatfield, who was head of and taught in the Automotive Department of Beal Secondary School for 33 years, and Valerie Whitney who has been teaching for 36 years and is currently teaching primary students at St. Margaret d'Youville School. The Teachers' Wall of Fame is a partnership project of Western's Faculty of Education and the London Public Library. Dr. Kirsty Duncan will be at Western this week to discuss her search for the 1918 flu virus and the state of global preparedness for the next pandemic flu outbreak. The former Research Director of the AIC Institute of Corporate Citizenship, Rotman School of Business and professor at the University of Toronto and Royal Roads University, will give a public lecture on Friday, October 6 at 1:30 p.m. in Conron Hall, University College (Room 224). The Faculty of Arts and Humanities will be celebrating the life and literature of renowned Canadian author Timothy Findley on October 13th at the London Hilton. The evening, "40 Years with Tiff - Stories from Inside the House", will provide insight into the life of this literary giant as told by his partner Bill Whitehead and close friends Martha Henry and Mary Lou Finlay. Joan Barfoot, Western's new writer-in-residence, will also be taking part in the evening's festivities as well as friends and colleagues of Findley. Net proceeds from the evening will be directed to a Findley Scholarship Fund.
