Awards

(WINDSOR,
ONTARIO, MONDAY, OCTOBER 2, 2006) – A dedicated feminist who has devoted her
retirement to the work of the University of Windsor’s Friends of Women’s
Studies, the organizing group for the Distinguished Visitor in Women’s
Studies program, is one of five outstanding community and University of
Windsor supporters who will be honoured with the 2006 Clark Award. This
year’s winners will receive their awards during a dinner in their honour,
Thursday, October 5, 6:30 p.m. in the CAW Centre’s Ambassador Auditorium at
the University of Windsor.

Clark Awards have been presented annually since 1994. Named in honour of the
late Charles J. Clark Sr., Q.C., former Chancellor of the University of
Windsor, the award recognizes outstanding personal service of both alumni
volunteers and friends of the university who have made significant
commitments in time, energy and expertise, by serving on University of
Windsor boards, committees or campaigns; and/or have worked extensively to
increase the profile and reputation of the University.

The recipients for 2006 are:

Roman Dzus (BA ‘70, MA ‘75), Acting Director, Windsor-Essex County
Development Commission and a member of the Odette School of Business
Advisory Panel and the Council for the University of Windsor Centre for
Automotive Research and Education (CARE). He has also supported the
University of Windsor in its recent bond issue as a member of a special
working group.

Dr. Ed King (MA ‘61, BA ‘76, MA ‘91, MA ‘01), Vice-President, Organization
of Part-Time University Students. He is a sessional teacher who has served
on the Board of Governors and a number of Board subcommittees, including the
Senate Steering Committee, the Committee on Procedures and Discrimination,
and the Engineering Building Committee.

Carol Libby, who has dedicated much of her retirement to the work of the
Friends of Women’s Studies, the organizing group for the Distinguished
Visitor in Women’s Studies program, whose community dinner has become the
largest joint University/community event of the year.

Robert (Bob) Renaud (BA ‘69, MA ‘72), Executive in Residence at the
University of Windsor’s Odette School of Business and who serves on the
Odette School of Business Advisory Council.

Hugh Sheldon (‘76), a long-time supporter of the Toronto Alumni and Friends
Golf Tournament..

Roman Dzus

Roman Dzus has been involved in a number of community-based organizations
and has focused on development of the University of Windsor’s collaboration
with the private sector. He lead the successful effort to gain accreditation
for the University’s planning program by the Canadian Institute of Planners
(CIP) and served as Chair of the Institute’s Southwestern Ontario chapter.
Dzus has served on the University of Windsor Alumni Association Board of
Directors and chaired its strategic planning committee. He has served with
distinction as a member of the President’s Council on University-Industry
Research and Development and worked as part of the team that successfully
secured such critical partnerships as the DaimlerChrysler Canada
Inc./University of Windsor Automotive Research and Development Centre
(ARDC), and the International Truck and Engine Corporation/University of
Windsor Centre for Innovation.

Dr. Ed King

In addition to his work with the University of Windsor’s Board of Governors,
King has served on the boards of a number of community service organizations
including Information Windsor and the John Howard Society. He is a volunteer
usher at the Cleary and Capitol Theatres and is a member of the United Way’s
speaker’s bureau. He is a distance runner and has been involved in social
justice events and lectures on the use of time in retirement.

Carol Libby

Carol Libby taught elementary school in Ohio and took a position as a School
Psychologist with the Detroit Public Schools in 1970. She joined the Faculty
of Social Sciences at St. Clair College in 1974 where she held a number of
faculty and administrative positions before retiring in 1998 as Director of
Student and Academic Services. During the 1980s Libby provided "affirmative
action" consulting services for the City of Windsor, the Windsor Women
Teachers’ Federation, the Essex County Board of Education and the Essex
County Separate Board of Education. She was a founding member of the Women’s
Economic Forum and served on the boards of the House of Sophrosyne, and the
Women’s Incentive Centre. In 1990 she served as co-leader of an
international consultation on Stategic Planning for Directors of Technical
Collages in Thailand. In addition to her work with the University’s Women’s
Studies program, Libby serves on the Board of the Art Gallery of Windso

Robert (Bob) Renaud
Bob Renaud recently retired from the position Vice-President, Public and
Government Affairs after a 31-year career in corporate management at
DaimlerChrysler Canada. In addition to his work with the University of
Windsor’s Odette School of Business he serves on the board of the United Way
of Windsor/Essex, Leadership Windsor/Essex, the Greater Windsor Community
Foundation, the Windsor/Essex Development Commission and the University of
Windsor Chapter of AIESEC, an international student organization. He is also
involved in the Cancer Prevention Network and the "Call to Action" for the
Windsor-Essex County Health Unit. He recently served as judge for the 2006
Ontario Global Traders Awards.

Hugh Sheldon
Hugh Sheldon is a Principal with the Learning Continuum, a company
specializing in professional consulting and coaching aimed at helping
companies achieve their strategic marketing goals. Sheldon has been
instrumental in supporting the Toronto chapter of the University of
Windsor’s Alumni and Friends Golf Tournament.
