"I am quite honoured that my colleagues have chosen me for this task, and look forward to serving the Geoscience community. Canadian Geologists are well respected worldwide, and collectively we are working toward the highest standards of professional practice" The CCPG is an autonomous federation of Provincial and Territorial professional associations whose primary functions are to serve and protect the public welfare and provide services to members. It is the Geoscience Advisory Board to all Provincial and Territorial Professional Engineering and Geoscience Associations, and develops policy recommendations for the regulation of Geoscience in Canada. Important tasks carried out by various Committees and Task Forces of the CCPG include establishing minimum acceptable national standards for education and admission, removal of interprovincial barriers to the mobility of Geoscientists across Canada, liaison between Provincial and International jurisdictions, and the enhancement and promotion of Professional Geoscience in Canada. The Presidents of the Professional Engineering and Geoscience Associations chose Dr. Mumin because of his broad-based work and collaborations with federal and provincial governments, universities and industry, including teaching, research, consulting and management. Dr. Mumin encourages professionalism in all aspects of Geoscience. He is committed to working for high but flexible academic standards, accessible registration, easy and full mobility of Geoscientists across Canada and internationally, and the general enhancement of professional geoscience. The Department of Geology at Brandon University provides a solid foundation in Geoscience education that prepares students for Professional Registration. The wide range of activities and interests of Brandon Professors and the broad scope of the Geology program make Brandon University an excellent choice for students seeking careers in many branches of the Geosciences, including the resource industries, government geological surveys, and educational, environmental and financial institutions.
