October 3, 2006 Source: : http://www.brandonu.ca/news/article.asp?A_ID=1114 Pro Series Celebrates Mozart's 250th Birthday In Style BRANDON, MB – The BU School of Music's Mozart Series marks the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth with performances of his greatest chamber works by the Jarvis Quintet. The Mozart Series takes place on Tuesday, October 10, and Thursday, October 12 at 8:00 p.m., in the Lorne Watson Recital Hall. Admission to the concerts is free, though seating is limited and tickets are required. Tickets may be ordered through the School of Music office at 727-9631. The Jarvis Quintet made a brilliant debut in January at the Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber Music Society’s special Mozart's Birthday concert. The Quintet includes BU string faculty violinist Kerry DuWors, violist Nancy Nehring, and cellist Mark Rudoff, known throughout Canada for their solo and chamber performances. Joining the Brandonites are violinist Min-Jeong Koh (who will be remembered by Manitoba audiences as the second-prize winner in the 2006 Eckhardt-Gramatté Competition) and Winnipeg-born violist Karen Moffatt. Mozart's string quintets are his crowning achievement in chamber music, earning special favour among scholars and performers for the creativity, virtuosity and expressive richness Mozart displays in these rarely heard works. The Jarvis Quintet's performances will take the Pro Series audience on a musical tour through Mozart's life, from the early experiments of his teen years to the mature eloquence of his last years in Vienna. BU’s Mozart Series is one of only three performances of the complete quintet cycle presented in North America this year, and the only one in Canada. The Mozart Series is a must-hear for the Mozartomane – and maybe even more enticing for the music lover who likes but has not yet been thrilled by Mozart. The concerts start at 8:00. Admission to the concerts is free, though seating is limited and tickets are required. Tickets may be ordered through the School of Music office at 727-9631.
