UNBF to Host
LearnNB Annual General
Meeting

October 3, 2006
UNB Fredericton News Release: D731
Natalie Montgomery, Public Relations Officer (506) 451-6842

Leaders in the learning industry will gather in Fredericton on Friday, Oct.
6, for the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of LearnNB. The meeting will take
place at the University of New Brunswick’s Wu Conference Centre.

This will be the third AGM of the Canadian Society of Training & Development
New Brunswick Chapter and LearnNB, the export marketing alliance of New
Brunswick learning companies and institutions.

The theme of this year’s meeting is Collaborating to Compete.

"The theme of collaboration is one that is of paramount importance to our
industry," said Gary Stairs, outgoing president of LearnNB. "To remain
competitive in a global marketplace, New Brunswick learning companies must
become more skilled at the hard work of collaborating to achieve optimal
business outcomes."

LearnNB represents business, institutional, and government members of New
Brunswick’s learning industry. Headlining the event will be a panel
discussion featuring leading business professionals from the region. The
members are Gerry Pond, chief executive officer, Mariner Partners; Neville
Gilfoy, publisher, Progress magazine; and Ed Barrett, chief executive
officer, Barrett Corporation. The panel will be moderated by Robert
Hathaway, president, Hathaway Orthodontics and vice-president/owner of
Capital Airways.

Also during the meeting, Kathy Watt, manager of business development at
UNB’s College of Extended Learning will assume the role of incoming
president.

"My goal for the term of president will be to engage the diverse
stakeholders, to move forward the tasks related to our export marketing
alliance, and to realize a significant contribution to the growth and
development of individuals and organizations in New Brunswick through
learning," she said.

All are welcome to attend the meeting. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. on
Oct. 6 at the Wu Conference Centre.
